Enhanced Search with Inferred Skills: How It Works

Last Updated:

Enhanced Search with Inferred Skills enables you to supercharge your sourcing. Save time by eliminating the need to compose complex searches. Instead, just search for the role titles you’re looking to fill and Beamery’s AI will identify the most relevant skills and expand your query.

Enhanced Search with Inferred Skills uses Beamery's AI to enhance your Boolean search with inferred skills, which means that your search results will contain candidates who may not have previously held the specific job title in your search, but have the skills necessary to succeed in the role.

How does Enhanced Search with Inferred Skills work?

Put simply, when you enter a Boolean search query into Beamery that contains job titles, Beamery’s AI will analyze those job titles, find the most relevant skills for the roles included in the Boolean query, and add those skills to your search.

This means that your results will contain candidates who may not have previously held the specific job title in your search, but have the skills necessary to succeed in the role. Use Smart Search Rankings with Enhanced Search to surface more great candidates, ranked in relevance order.

These are the steps Beamery’s Enhanced Search with Inferred Skills takes when you enter a Boolean search query:

  1. First, Beamery’s AI will use the job titles in your Boolean search to detect the top 10 most relevant skills to those roles. Note that job titles you have excluded from your Boolean search, for example NOT “Product Manager” will be ignored, so you can continue to exclude job titles from your Boolean search in this way.
  2. Those top 10 skills are added to the original boolean query using an OR logic for each skill. Using OR logic purposefully expands the query in order to get more relevant results.
  3. Beamery searches for the skills added by Enhanced Search with Inferred Skills on contact profiles and attachments.
  4. We recommend using Smart Search Rankings to sort the results of a search that uses Enhanced Search with Inferred Skills, as the results are then displayed in relevance order with the best matched candidates at the top of your list.

Where Does Beamery Get the Skills From to Expand my Query?

Beamery’s AI has been trained using millions of global, anonymized, publicly available records to identify the most common skills associated with jobs across more than 100 industries.

Then, Beamery uses this intelligence to surface skills that are most commonly associated with the job title in your search. As the records used to train the models were anonymized, and the AI focuses solely on the relationship between a job title and skills, there are no bias-causing data points in the model.
